GdS: Milan aiming to agree Leao’s renewal before the derby – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

Another day, another story about Rafael Leao being supposedly close to renewing his contract with AC Milan, currently expiring in June 2024.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes this morning how the negotiation between Leao’s entourage and the Milan management has been going on for several months now, but his signature has never been as close as it is at present.

It is unlikely everything will be agreed today given there is a match against Cremonese to focus on, but from tomorrow onwards it really could come on any day, perhaps on either Monday and Tuesday next week which would be before the first leg of the Champions League derby against Inter.

The Milan leadership hope the decisive acceleration will arrive very soon, so as to finally put an end to this infinite saga. Leao accepted the offer of €7m net per season for five years plus a €2m signing bonus, with just the fine situation to resolve.

Meanwhile, the winger remains focused on the season finale in which Milan need to keep winning domestically and hope for a final in the Champions League.

It starts with tonight’s game against Cremonese, but Rafa will initially start from the bench because Stefano Pioli wants to let him rest a bit in view of the fundamental matches against Lazio (Serie A) and Inter (Champions League) to come.
