GdS: Milan player ratings for Genoa draw – mixed bag of scores after defensive collapse

By Oliver Fisher -

A number of AC Milan players drew criticism for their performance during yesterday’s 3-3 draw against Genoa at San Siro after a defensive shambles again.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) has their ratings from the game, starting with the team’s overall performance and Stefano Pioli’s management of the game, both of which were given a 5.5 out of 10.

The best player on the pitch for the Rossoneri was Christian Pulisic as he was at the heart of a lot of what was created. He scored a 7, while Fikayo Tomori was the worst as he gave away a penalty and generally looked erratic, getting a 4.5.

Alessandro Florenzi was praised for the goal he scored as he got a 7, while Samuel Chukwueze and Noah Okafor – who came off the bench – were both given a 6.5.

Marco Sportiello was given a 6 as he could do little about the goals that were conceded. Matteo Gabbia and Tijjani Reijnders got the same, as did Olivier Giroud who missed a big chance but then made up for it with a volley.

Theo Hernandez and Ismael Bennacer both struggled and were scored a 5.5, as was Malick Thiaw, while Rafael Leao left the field to jeers and got half a point less.

  1. Gabbia is a bit high, he scored a goal but was also beaten in the second goal we conceded and had a couple of shaky moments and passes. 5.5 imo

    1. Agreed. I would lower it even to 5. So much hesitation to block the opponent going forward, and very bad coordination with Tomori. In fact, I can’t remember a single positive defensive play from him.

Also Pulisic way way too high (probably the paper wants to pander to our American fans), as well as Florenzi whose flank was just as exposed as Theo’s.

For me, Chukweze was our best attacker, and Okafor was not terrible as well.

      1. Disagree. Almost scored twice (crossbar once) and had an assist. Name another player who was more dangerous in attack.

      2. Every other Italian paper put Pulisic as MOTM or tied for the highest rating. I think you’re the one with a bias here.

  2. What the hell is going on at Milan?
Management has lost control and no one is steering the ship on course with a huge iceberg.
Supporter do not desire this crap, and if the Ibra, Moncada, and Furlini can not work together then Cardinali who cause this should sack them.
Ibra should not be there in management causing chaos, he doesn’t have the experience for management!

  3. Every other Italian paper put Pulisic as MOTM or tied for the highest rating. I think you’re the one with a bias here.
