GdS: Milan player ratings for Juventus defeat – trio heavily criticised

It was a rough performance from AC Milan in the big game against Juventus last night, resulting in a 2-0 defeat. Three players were highlighted as very poor by Gazzetta dello Sport, while several others struggled too.

Sergio Conceicao was far from happy with his team after the full-time whistle, with Juventus dominating most of the game. Apart from a few counter-attacks in the first half, the Rossoneri really didn’t have any chances to find the back of the net.

Today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below) named Matteo Gabbia as the best performer, with a rating of 6/10. However, while he was indeed solid, he was helped by the fact that Juventus played without a proper striker.

The worst, on the other hand, was Yunus Musah at 4/10 as per the newspaper. He was lazy in tracking back, as seen on the first goal, and his touches in possession were far from good. Tammy Abraham also received a 4 from the newspaper.

Sergio Conceicao was handed a 4/10 as well with Milan struggling to find any play whatsoever. They also looked worse after the first half, and you would have expected the opposite.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s player ratings

6: Matteo Gabbia.

5.5: Mike Maignan, Ismael Bennacer, Tijjani Reijnders, Alex Jimenez.

5: Fikayo Tomori, Theo Hernandez, Youssouf Fofana, Rafael Leao.

4.5: Emerson Royal.

4: Sergio Conceicao, Yunus Musah, Tammy Abraham.

  1. When a few players are injured, and all that you have left are the likes of Abraham, Camarda, Bennacer, Jimenez, Emerson, Jovic, Terraciano, to play Juventus, what do you expect? Chukwueze and Okafor are still in the mix. A lot of these players will not sell for good money, or a loan. And these are the players we are relying on to carry us through the season. No coach can perform miracles week in, week out, with this lot.

    1. It is all idiots moneyball players.

Bennacer is out, like Florenzi and Calabria. They are out in terms of any kind of quality.
Terracciano is moneyball in future to be sell player. And Gabbia and Thiaw cheap young, primarily back up but never first team players.
When you add Chukwueze, Okafor, Jovic, and now Abraham, Pavlovic, Morata, they are all cheap ac milan options, which they represent as strong reinforcement for this year.
Final result is mid table. And bad play.

I think they all deserve sale. After this season their value will go down so they can be loaned out or directly be sold for less money that previously bought. Cut them out from salary and play only serie a with best possible options that left.

      1. Cheap? Only the quality of the product. We’ve spent over 200 mil. for transfers just in the last 2 years. More than any other Italian club.

      2. Gabbia and Thiaw not first team players? They are among the very few that have been consistently good; actually maybe they are two of the ONLY three that can say that, together with Pulisic. These two I’d definitely keep as first team players. I agree about the others, although I think Morata could be repurposed as CAM and he’d do well there; but for striker we need someone who scores more.

  2. It is always easy to pick a rating to criticize. In this case the 4 for Musah is not right. We are most accustomed to seeing him in the midfield, but yesterday he was upfront in place of Pulisic. As right wingback, he is held accountable for not tracking back on the first goal? That would have seem to have been the defensive midfielder’s responsibilities. Musah always works, always. I bet he was toward the top of the list of kms covered when he was substituted out for Jiminez. That said, he had some poor touches.

Lowest score for me? Emerson, who though he tracked back well, was a turnover machine with his passing.
