GdS: Milan vs. Juventus, Ibra vs. Cristiano Ronaldo – a statistical comparison of their starts

By Oliver Fisher -

There has been a lot of debate in the media recently regarding whether Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Cristiano Ronaldo is more important to their respective teams.

Ibrahimovic is currently the top scorer in Serie A with 10 goals in his first six starts of the season, two more than Ronaldo.

According to what is reported in Tuesday’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ibrahimovic has fired the most shots on goal of any Milan player in Serie A (16) while Ronaldo has had 13 attempts.

The Portuguese has scored a higher percentage of his team’s goals in the league this season with 57% compared to the Swede’s 53%.

The paper also looks at the goals per game average of the two players throughout the timeline of their careers, and so far in the 2020-21 season Ibrahimovic (1.66) is ahead of Ronaldo (1.6).

If he keeps it up, he would finish with a higher goals per game ratio than the former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker for the fourth time in his career.
