GdS: Milan’s attack struggling without Giroud – his return is crucial

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan lost 3-0 in their final mid-season friendly against PSV Eindhoven last night and there were some worrying signs regarding the attack.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) writes this morning, Stefano Pioli was without Olivier Giroud and with the Frenchman the attack is much more dangerous and unpredictable. Yesterday Pioli had two options: return to using Rebic as centre-forward or try Charles De Ketelaere in that role.

He took the logical option but got little in return as Rebic shot twice but did not look up to rhythm. Marko Lazetic came on in the second half to lead the line but did not have much service either.

Who will play as the striker against Salernitana? Rebic and Giroud remain as options with De Ketelaere to probably be excluded. Prudence would perhaps suggest that Giroud avoid the games against Salernitana and Roma (4 and 8 January) but Pioli will think about using him.
