GdS: ‘Like Montolivo and Romagnoli’ – Calabria latest captain to leave Milan for free

Davide Calabria has lost his starting spot at AC Milan and despite still being the captain of the team, he’s expected to leave the club on a free transfer. According to a report, the renewal talks have come to a complete halt.

The No.2’s contract will expire at the end of the season and for months now, reports have suggested that no progress has been made on this front. As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, his situation is ‘like Montolivo and Romagnoli’, who also left as captains on free transfers.

Compared to the history of the club, the trend has certainly changed for the captain’s armband as many players have worn it in the last ten years. Furthermore, as we saw with Riccardo Montolivo and Alessio Romagnoli, the captain doesn’t even have to be a starter for the team.

In the Scudetto season, for example, Romagnoli wasn’t one of the starting centre-backs due to poor performances and an injury. This season, it has been exactly the same scenario for Calabria as Emerson Royal has climbed to the top of the pecking order.

In any case, as the report states, negotiations between Milan and Calabria over a contract renewal have fallen through and barring any surprises, he will leave for free in the summer. Even if he’s not a world-class right-back, this would still be a great shame given his Rossonero heart and value, which stands at around €10-15m.

        1. How am I wrong buddy?
Does the chief scout make contracts with players?
I kinda thought the chief scout scouts players…

My posts are 100% truths. Anyone who doesn’t understand them can go suck a 🐓

  1. Milan can’t find agreement for lower gross salary for him, that’s why player must go for free.
In terms of signing new contract for lower salary no one would bid for Calabria.
And player by himself demand bigger salary than current.
Calabria like before Romagnoli is not player of great value for Milan ant that’s why he can’t be kept.

  2. Well when all you care about is money….

Why don’t you support a club with actual money like Man City?

Why waste your time with Milan?

  3. Milan’s treatment of its last 4 captains is embarrassing.

All forced out, all gone with a whimper, none shown any respect.

And what do we have to show for it?

    One Scudetto.

It’d be one thing if we were any good.

But we’re an average team with no soul.

What is the point of AC Milan in 2024?

  4. We’re gonna get rid of a homegrown player who hasn’t complained about lesser minutes, but will keep the worthless Emerson who has been our worst signing since Origi… worthless ownership

  5. There is literally no good reason not to renew him. He’s Italian, Milanista and is very willing to renew, he isn’t even going for outrageous wages. Maybe he has dipped in quality, but he was inverted a lot last season. And he isn’t absolutely awful anyway, he really could still have a use.

  6. From first view he is Milanista, play for Milan from young boy and still is better average player, (last 3 season we finish always in top 4 with him in starting 11) and is more experienced then Royal…this is the only reason why I give him contract… but from the other side, his price is “only” around 10m and the fact he is average players is reason why he don’t play for Italy… even every National coach know it and don’t call him. For me another 2 years contract for 2m is okay, is it cheaper then again buy shitty slow player on RB position and good idea is slowly involving Jimenes in to A team where he can slowly replace both players.. + there is also Terracciano with good potential
