GdS: Napoli attempted to poach Milan youngster with €25m offer to Real Madrid

Alex Jimenez is eager to prove his qualities to Max Allegri in the right-back role, having rejected an approach from Napoli in the past few months.

Last season, after starting out with the Milan Futuro and becoming a key player for Daniele Bonera’s side, Jimenez took the step up to the first team. He didn’t look back after that, making 28 appearances and bagging two assists in the process.

As reported by Luca Bianchin of Gazzetta dello Sport, the Spaniard is now eager to prove his qualities to Max Allegri, who is unsure about his role. For now, though, it looks like he will start out at right-back and be an option for the right wing if needed.

Jimenez rejected Napoli

The role aside, Jimenez’s commitment to the Milan cause was strengthened a few months back, as he rejected an approach from Napoli. Per the report, Napoli initiated contacts with Real Madrid and even put €25m on the table, urging the Bernabeu side to trigger their €9m buy-back clause this summer.

However, Jimenez made it clear that he wanted to stay at Milan and as a result, nothing came of the Partenopei’s interest. Speaking of the buy-back clause, Real Madrid have decided not to trigger it as they already have Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dani Carvajal in the team.

Now, as said, the main thing will thus be for Allegri to figure out Jimenez’s role in the new Milan side. It’s also possible that the 20-year-old could receive a slight pay rise before the end of the season, rewarding his good performances so far.

  1. Kid is going to have a hard time under Allegri keeping a defensive mindset. Like Theo, his attributes are better at going forward but Max is risk averse.

    1. Well, according to history, he had Abate, similar to Jimenez and played him in a 4 man defense and he did extremely well, same goes for De Sciglio when he also used him at Juventus.

      1. They were both better defensively than offensively and even then they weren’t much to write home about.

I don’t know if Max is going to trust Jimenez.

        1. Really?
Such small minded bigotry, you had to say this just to support your lame argument?

These are wing backs at best, especially Abate who was known more for his attacking rather than defense. But he thrived so well under Allegri.

  2. He will do well as a wingback but as a fullback it’s still uncertain. 343 or 352 would do this player well but he could struggle in 433 or 4231. Like the player hopefully he can maximize his potential.

  3. Find some sum or arrangement, to cancel the future buy-back, or sell him. He is a huge waste if Madrid next season can buy him for pennies of his value

  4. He is under contract with us until 2028. If real want to use the buyback they also need a contract with the player. Buyback just means that they don’t have to negotiate with us. Why do media always put it as if they could just take him as they wish? As long as he is happy with us at least until end next season, real can do nothing because he won’t sign anything with them.

  5. Truth be told, Napoli will be a great force to reckon with in next season at this rate they are signing/being linked with fine players.

I mean I would be be very proud of myself if I happen to be supporting Napoli.

    1. Sure thing buddy, just change your handle colours to sky blue and white and you’re good to go.
