GdS: Pioli disappointed with Rebic’s attitude as Milan career looks to be over

By Oliver Fisher -

Ante Rebic’s career as an AC Milan player does not appear to be drifting towards conclusion but rather crashing and burning, if the latest reports are to be believed.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) recalls that Rebic was not even called up to the squad for the game against Juventus on Sunday night, one in which Milan secured qualification for the next edition of the Champions League.

However, it was not because of an injury problem. Instead, Stefano Pioli decided to leave the Croatian winger out purely by technical choice, deeming it better to not have him at all than as a potential option off the bench.

As per the newspaper it comes down to what was seen in training during the few days building up to the game. The attitude and intensity (or lack of) shown by the former Eintracht Frankfurt man at Milanello clearly disappointed Pioli.

It is therefore likely that Rebic and the Rossoneri will part ways in the summer after 123 games and 29 goals scored from the 2019-20 season to date.

It must be seen if he does enough to be called-up for the Verona game on Sunday for a possible farewell.

  1. 10 million is good amount to say goodbye. Rebic had 2 ok season but now is time to bring more consistent back up for Leao and strikers.

  2. Pity, because I’ve always liked Rebic and his on-pitch work ethic has been consistently good. However, it does seem like it’s the right time to part ways – €10m would be a big ask for a player on his salary who’s going to have to take a cut to move on though, I’d be surprised if we get that much for him. I do think he’ll be an excellent player for someone though.

  3. Very sad.

He’s been a crucial part of this Milan. Scored some crucial goals in crucial matches.

His equaliser against Salernitana helped us win the title.

    1. He was crucial for 2020-2021 Milan.
Last two seasons we barely see him doing well.
Except the first match against Udineze, he’s very very awful this season.
If we’ll manage to get 15 mil for him it would be magic.

  5. The first 2 seasons were absolutely brilliant. He had grinta and he knew how to score. He was an example to others. Then came the injuries and he became a shadow of himself. Such a shame. The Rebic of first 2 years will be missed.

But he did help us get the scudetto. Grazie!

  6. It’s shocking how bad he has become, he can’t even control a pass, such a pity. And I’ve always thought someone with his characteristics will be our ideal striker, less about being a target man/hold up play, but more about movement and unpredictability. Wish him the best wherever he goes.

  7. We should sell him right after win scudetto . Now his value decrease. Getting 10m euro fee from him are miracle now. We can only sell him 5-7m euro now to german club
