Stefano Pioli has returned from his vacation and has begun working on how AC Milan could look next season. A lot will depend on the movement on the mercato and he could even change the Rossoneri’s formation.
The 4-2-3-1 formation has been the main one for Milan since Pioli joined the club, and the Rossoneri have had the most success with that one. However, the manager has also displayed flexibility before, such as Diaz on the right and Krunic as the No.10.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (see photo below), Pioli could consider switching to a three-man midfield. Davide Frattesi, Milan’s main target for the defence, prefers to play in that type of formation and could thus spark the change.
Pioli would also prefer a physical attacking midfielder, such as Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, but it’s more likely that Milan will sign Daichi Kamada. He could thus change the formation between games, depending on the opponents, but everything will be decided by the signings this summer.
With the hypothetical arrival of someone like SMS, it will be tough to switch from the 4-2-3-1 formation.

Let’s wait for us to actually make some signings before speculation on our formation. We haven’t even locked down Kamada, supposedly due to their agents needing to resolve a couple of beaurocratic issues but after the events of the last couple weeks not sure to blindly believe that.
Pioli should have switched to 3-man midfield the moment Kessie left the club. The double pivot worked because of Kessie.
Last season Tonali and Bennacer were getting abused by most of the teams. The double pivot looked much better once Bennacer was replaced by Krunic in there.
💯 – not replacing Kessie was the biggest blunder of last year’s mercato. Along with no right winger. Or striker.
Agreed, defence was a lot more exposed last season. And we’ve just sold off the one defensive minded fielder we have.
What we have been asking for since the start of last season. Its weird that he could change the formation only because of a single player like Frattessi.
Last season Kamada played more as an MC than AMC and LW combined. Takes about 12 seconds to check. So obviously he can play in a 3 man midfield as the more offensive option, but who will be the defensive midfielder? Frattesi isn’t one.
Yeah, let’s switch formation to accomodate all the imaginary signings.

or Kalulu actually. If one could be turned into some sort of Kante, then it would actually be a masterstoke, though Pioli is quite rigid in his vision on what a player should be IMHO.
Tomori/Kalulu on DM might also mean that their ‘howler’ might not be as calamitous compared to when they’re being the last man on our defence.

Frattesi is going to Inter once Brozo sale goes through. We won’t get him either. Furlani needs to pull a rabbit out of his @$$ at this point to make a signing apparently.

What new signings? Milan’s market is doomed this sommer cause of Maldinis sacking so they should brace to stay in Serie A next season for starters…that should be a shot term goal.
What signings? I see new names everyday but it’s always interested, open talks, asked about, algorithms, phone calls but one key ingredient is missing, the OFFICIAL. I don’t know what these people are waiting for. Figure out a single person and bring him in. Don’t be linked or interested in 3 new names per day cause that’s getting us nowhere. You want scamacca? Go talk and get the deal done. Focus on the next once it’s completed. At this rate we won’t bring anybody in and will panic buy and then we’ll have a change of heart on origi and think he needs another season to turn it around

Last I checked we haven’t made any signings LOL. So let’s actually wait and see who the fook we sign before making or predicting line up changes.
