GdS: Pioli worried about psychological setback for Milan after Bologna draw

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan failed to extend their winning run in Serie A last night, drawing 2-2 against Bologna after missing two penalties. The recent momentum has suffered a setback, therefore, and Stefano Pioli is worried that it will affect the team a lot.

Milan headed into the clash with the aim of making it five consecutive wins, but failed after conceding a 92nd-minute equaliser. Ruben Loftus-Cheek bagged a brace and was named our MOTM, but the likes of Olivier Giroud and Theo Hernandez missed a penalty each.

As highlighted by Gazzetta dello Sport this morning (see featured image), Pioli is worried that the disappointing result will have a very negative impact on the team. “Mentally, I have to work well with the team when training resumes. I’m afraid that the group will end up suffering a bit,” he stated.

The Rossoneri are still seven games unbeaten in the league, and Bologna have done very well this season, but the two missed penalties weigh heavily. Pioli has experienced serious lows at Milan in the past and will want to avoid one at all costs.

Milan will take on Frosinone next and it’s a must-win for the team, not just for the standings but also to rebound the confidence. Napoli are the opponents after that, so it will be necessary to head into that clash with a good overall feeling.

  1. Pioli’s history is like this.

He takes over, does well initially using modifying the team to play how he wants.

Unfortunately, other top coaches learn how to counter Pioli’s tactics and nullify Pioli’s threats. It’s why we get destroyed by lower Serie A teams despite having a more talented team overall. It’s all down to Pioli’s tactics.

Pioli cannot adapt to teams adapting to his style of play. He gets stuck in a loop until he is fired. It will happen here too.

Pioli does not seem to be able to innovate tactically on the fly. What goes up, comes back down. Ergo, Pioli is done. The sooner we get a new coach, the sooner we stop the bleeding.
