GdS: Probable XIs for Genoa vs. Milan – a first start for Jovic

By Euan Burns -

Serbian forward Luka Jovic is set to receive his first start for AC Milan against Genoa with Stefano Pioli putting his faith in the new striker.

According to what is being reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), head coach Stefano Pioli is going to rest Olivier Giroud and allow Jovic to start for the first time, after a run of substitute appearances.

Many thought that Noah Okafor would start as the striker, but it seems that Rafael Leao will also be dropping to the bench and Okafor will get to play on the left wing. The pair will be joined by Samuel Chukwueze who gets the nod over Christian Pulisic on the right wing.

Yacine Adli is set to hold his place in the midfield from the last Serie A game, with Yunus Musah and Tijjani Reijnders on either side of him.

Davide Calabria is expected to be dropped to the bench for Alessandro Florenzi, whilst Mike Maignan will make his return in goal in place of Marco Sportiello.

Probable Milan XI (4-3-3): Maignan; Florenzi, Thiaw, Tomori, Hernandez; Musah, Adli, Reijnders; Chukwueze, Jovic, Okafor.

Probable Genoa XI (3-5-2): Martinez; Dragusin, Bani, Vasquez; De Winter, Thorsby, Frendrup, Malinovskyi, Matturro; Messias, Gudmundsson.

  1. I always think it is hard to play worse than Giroud but it is likely I will be proven wrong today…Current Milan strikers should be at maybe Torino or Sassuolo.

  2. You people why you remove Milan fans to the group?,you want to be in the group alone?,it’s okay but we are all Milan family

  3. Look the best striker we have is Olivier Giroud..just hope he is not carrying an injury..
Yes it’s good to rest all players from time to time ..but also leao ?
I think it would have been better to have started both Olivier Giroud and Rafeo leao ,,,then rest them later in the game ..just hope that starting both okafor and jovic will not be a huge mistake..
But I have faith in our manager pioli ..
I still believe we will win the scuddeto this season .

    1. A times I read some comments here that makes me want to laugh out my intestines… because the same fans that advocates for the new players to be played are still the ones who criticize the coach when these set of new players get the nod over the old or regular starters, confusion everywhere….😀😂🤣.

Pioli deserves an applaud for rotating the team this week against Genoa. If Milan draw or lose, I will be the last person to complain against the team. Kudos Pioli…👍

Giroud should also be rested in our next match or start from the bench after the international break, but who am I to decide?
After all he is Pioli’s puppet.

  4. Literally I don’t like jovic. He doesn’t have fighting spirit and he’s also weak upfront. I’d rather prefer luka Romero on the left and okafor at the centre. Look at what he did in the preseason mostly against real . Just give Romero a chance.

  5. Why don’t he play Leao-Jovic-Pulisic or Leao-Okofor-Pulisic from start. Leao and Pulisic should be able to play, they don’t need rest just cause they started in the Champions league match. They are still young. Pioli need to let Okofor or Jovic start a game with Leao and Pulisic.

  6. Im so excited w/ our 3 forward, a combination of speed and physical play… i hope they can shine w/ assist and goal, especially jovic…

  7. A win against Genoa is tricky but you know what else is tricky?
The fact that your life is not guaranteed tomorrow.
Don’t forget that your life is a gift and you should really consider where you will spend eternity.
Every day you are alive, be thankful you still have the living breath of God in you.

The Bible says, in 1 John 2:15-17 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him”.

If AC Milan loses tomorrow, don’t let that ruin your day, still praise God.

  8. Inter dropped two points to Bologna. We have an opportunity to be isolated at the top of the table if we beat Genoa. I hope this B forward line delivers. I’m a little nervous about it. But we do have our starters on the bench; if things go wrong they can be brought in. Forza Milan!
