GdS: Mayor Sala holds 35-minute meeting with Milan and Inter CEOs over stadium

By Oliver Fisher -

There was a meeting this morning between representatives of AC Milan, Inter and Mayor Beppe Sala regarding the two clubs’ plans for a new stadium.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport report, another chapter regarding the destiny of San Siro began at 09:00 CET this morning at Palazzo Marino (the City Hall) and ended 35 minutes later.

The meeting was organised by the Mayor of Milan Beppe Sala for a discussion on the hypothesis of renovating the San Siro, which was also relaunched a few days ago by Webuild, and it was seemingly quite a quick one.

Both clubs were summoned: the president of Milan, Paolo Scaroni, arrived a minute early, shortly before the CEO of Inter Alessandro Antonello also arrived. The two officials left quickly without making any statements and stopped in a bar not far from the City Hall, talking intently.

After last year’s setbacks and the derailment of the previous joint stadium project in light of the Superintendency’s restriction on demolishing the second tier, both clubs have turned to options outside the city lines.

The Rossoneri have already purchased the land identified in San Donato Milanese for €40m; the the Nerazzurri have instead stipulated a pre-emption agreement on an area in Rozzano not far from the Assago Forum – owned by the Cabassi family – which will expire on 30 April.

On the eve of today’s meeting, both clubs seemed perplexed by Mayor Sala’s proposals and a bit sceptical regarding what can be achieved.

  1. Milan should just go ahead with their plans, forget about Sala, and forget about building a new stadium with Inter, Milan needs to think big, sharing a stadium and the commercial area would be a mistake, it would be better to be owned and operated solely by Milan

  2. 35 minutes? Yea that didn’t go well ….for Sala ofc lol 😂
To me the bigger news is really that we spoke with the Inter official separately after this meeting giving some fuel to the fire that we might be having collaborative talks on the stadium front
