GdS: Sarri in pole position to replace Fonseca as Milan want certainties

The Derby della Madonnina between AC Milan and Inter will kick off in a few hours and for Paulo Fonseca, it’s a crucial game. Without a win, as a report claims, he will almost certainly be sacked and one manager is in pole position to replace him.

Despite some optimism in the pre-season, with Milan showing a new side to their game, the start of the season has been very disappointing, to say the least. The Rossoneri have clinched just one win in five games and Fonseca is now under heavy scrutiny.

As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport today, Milan are looking at potential replacements as a defeat tonight would make Fonseca’s exit almost a given. Maurizio Sarri is in pole position for the job while Igor Tudor and Max Allegri are close seconds, with the Rossoneri expected to go with a manager that knows Serie A.

It’s not the first time that Sarri has been linked with the club as he even was an option to replace Stefano Pioli. We were first to reveal Milan’s interest back in January, published on our Substack, and they haven’t taken him off their radar since.

Certainly, after giving the foreign option a go, it seems very likely that the new manager will be Italian (or at least experienced in Serie A).

    1. What has nationality got to do with it. In that same timeline how many Italian coaches has taken that seat?
Give an average coach quality players and they will get the job done.

  1. I actually like the more I though the idea of our team shifting to 4-4-2… Sergio is expert in this formation and could be the best choice…

We lack midfielders for 3 men midfield formation, in this new version Reijnders, Fofana take the charge with Musah and Zeroli as cover (sell RLC and Bennacer and raise 50-75M. Hope Pioli bring the release clause money from Saudi). Okafor will be Morata sub in this version and Tammy has Jovic until summer. Also, I would try using Liberalli and Camarda more and more in those positions.

Get Kayode and Ricci, promote Traore until Saelemakers comes back in the summer same with Jovic and wait for Colombo development (3 goal participation in 5 games and already a starter). Or alternatively J.David and sell Jovic.

  2. Whats here not to like about sarri? Plays beautiful football and has had success at every team he’s coached. Even when they didn’t give him his fair shot
