GdS: Split in Milan camp regarding Pioli – who wants him to stay and who wants him to go

By Oliver Fisher -

There is a split in the AC Milan camp regarding those who want Stefano Pioli to stay and those who would welcome a change, a report claims.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport on Sunday (via MilanNews), the casting for the next head coach of the Rossoneri is essentially a battle between Pioli and Ralf Rangnick.

Alessio Romagnoli Gianluigi Donnarumma and Theo Hernandez are unmoved about the prospect of either Pioli staying or Rangnick arrival as they know they would be starters regardless.

Among the “neutrals” are Franck Kessié and Hakan Calhanoglu, who could also find space with another coach. The change on the bench however could be useful to Rafael Leao who has ended up on the fringes under the current boss, while the same applies to Lucas Paqueta.

Meanwhile on the flip side Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ante Rebic are have established a good relationship with Pioli. If he stayed on the Milan bench, the chances of seeing Ibra stay for another season would increase.

Rebic worked with Rangnick at RB Leipzig when the German was sporting director and the experience was far from positive. Finally, among the also in support of Pioli are Conti, Bennacer and Castillejo, players who benefited from the work of the Emilian coach.
