Mike Maignan left the field injured during AC Milan’s defeat to Liverpool last night, and Lorenzo Torriani is now expected to start the derby against Inter on Sunday.

La Gazzetta dello Sport talks about the sliding door in Milan’s terrible evening. While everyone went to hug Christian Pulisic after the goal that gave them the lead, Maignan collapsed to the ground, touching his thigh muscles.

He continued after that and while he made a couple of good diving saves, he did not seem his usual self. The Frenchman did not get near claiming the cross for Konate’s equaliser, and was immobile on the goal line when Van Dijk headed in.

Maignan then had to raise the white flag when he was clattered into by both Fikayo Tomori and Diogo Jota suffering a bad cut to his thigh, therefore a different problem to the muscle discomfort. He went to the dressing room with his head hidden under his shirt, and left the stadium ‘struggling to walk’.

Mike’s ordeal, however, becomes the dream opportunity for Lorenzo Torriani who came off the bench to replace him for his first taste of the Champions League. It comes after a preseason in which he went from the Primavera’s third choice goalkeeper to starting friendlies against Europe’s elite.

Last night the 19-year-old made a great save to deny Szoboszlai, before the Hungarian beat him from two yards away when he was helpless to do anything. He made a good intervention on Darwin Nunez too, and now his challenge is to stop Lautaro Martinez and co. on Sunday in his first derby.
