GdS: Two formations Pioli could use for Milan next season – how they would look

By Isak Möller -

Hoping to replicate the 2021/22 season, Stefano Pioli has a few ideas to switch things up and surprise the opponents. In fact, some of the players Milan are chasing on the market could help him switch formations.

In today’s edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport, as you can see in the photos below, two formations are analysed for Milan’s upcoming season. Based on the potential signings, a 4-3-3 or three men at the back could be used.

Renato Sanches, Yacine Adli and Tommaso Pobega, for example, would be more comfortable in a three-man midfield and that’s why the 4-3-3 is an option. In that case, Charles De Ketelaere could be deployed mainly on the right.

Given Simon Kjaer’s return, a three-man backline cannot be ruled out either. The Dane is not as fast as his defensive partners and he could thus play in the middle, with Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori on either side of him.

    1. In some ways though, that’s what influences signings. The best signings are ones made to fit in a system, although obviously good coaches adapt their system to the available players too

    2. Hahaha.. I don’t know what happened, but I think redbird not even better than elliot cause this slow move in this mercato and what’s wrong with maldini renewal?

  1. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work this out, I posted the same exact thing in a thread about 2 hours ago and I don’t have GdS!

I think a 3-5-2/5-3-2 makes more sense than the 3-4-3 though, this way there isn’t huge pressure to make both an expensive AMC and RW signing, a single player who could do both would fit nicely.

Replacing Kessie like for like would be difficult, as would signing two top attacking players, so these changes make a lot of ‘moneyball’ sense.
