GdS: Two friendlies and two opportunities for Pioli to test new attacking duo

Later today, AC Milan will face Monza in the Trofeo Silvio Berlusconi and tomorrow evening, they will take on Trento at Milanello. Two opportunities for Stefano Pioli to see Samuel Chukwueze and Noah Okafor in action.

Milan have reinforced their attack with several signings this summer and we are yet to see two of them in action, namely Chukwueze and Okafor. As highlighted by today’s edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (see photo below), we won’t have to wait long though.

Pioli has opted to play the attacking trident of Rafael Leao, Olivier Giroud and Christian Pulisic from start tonight but there will be some in-game changes. As per the newspaper, we could get to see a few minutes of Chukwueze and Okafor in action.

Then, we will get to see significantly more in the game against Trento at 18:00 CEST tomorrow. The close scheduling is a way for Pioli to give every single player a chance and that format will be repeated at the weekend (first ES Sahel, then Novara).

As Berlusconi would have enjoyed, Milan could showcase their attack this evening and give the new signings a run for their money. There’s no doubt that Pioli has several interesting options for the attacking department.

  1. My biggest worry for this season is Pioli. It’s still a bit early but he still hasn’t shown that he’s come up with a real attacking strategy, just like last season. If he doesn’t stay within a few points of first place all season, he will be fired probably. I’d love to see someone like Sarri or De Zerbi. We haven’t had a good manager since Ancelotti.

  2. I agree. Pioli seems tactically deficient and it has been clear for a while. He cannot grow youngsters or even find matches to give them time on the pitch and he changes players’ preferred roles which can potentially ruin their growth or confidence. I don’t think he’ll last after this season if our overall play doesn’t improve or he doesn’t have any silverware to back his contract renewal.

  3. I must say that this transfer window has been the best since the past 2 decades, but my fear in this team is no other person but Pioli. He still hasn’t convinced me that he is the right man to coach this team.
