GdS: VAR correct to intervene and help award Milan a penalty vs. Udinese

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan were awarded their first penalty in eight months last night as Davide Calabria was brought down in the box. A decision that sparked anger among the Udinese management, but it was the right call.

It was a rather peculiar situation as Calabria initially intended to hit the ball goalwards. However, his failure to connect properly ended up benefitting him as he shielded the ball instead, which made it difficult for the Udinese player to hit the ball.

As stated in today’s edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews), analysing the referee’s performance, VAR was correct to step in and tell the referee to have a look. Calabria’s poor control doesn’t matter, Soppy came in way too harsh and hit the player first with his tackle.

In short, it was the right decision to award Milan a penalty. Udinesedon’t have a leg to stand on as per the rules and the debate can now be concluded.

So Udinese management were angry despite the VAR was right but they didn’t angry when last season the referee let Udogi scored a goal against Milan using his hand 😂 Stay salty Udinese!

No wonder Inter fans and players are salty as F. The referee gave them a lot of free pinalti but Milan the one who won the scudetto 😁
