GdS: Who will decide on Pioli’s Milan future and the two factors at play

By Oliver Fisher -

As the days go by more information continues to emerge about AC Milan’s plans for the summer and the future of head coach Stefano Pioli.

According to this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), a final judgment on Pioli – one that will determine whether or not he will remain in charge – will be made by Zlatan Ibrahimovic in consultation with Gerry Cardinale and CEO Giorgio Furlani.

It will depend on the result in the Europa League, but not only that. If a line can already be drawn in the leage, the return leg of the quarter-final on Thursday at the Stadio Olimpico will mark an important turning point in shedding light on the future of Pioli.

Cardinale has entrusted Ibrahimovic with the duty of planning Milan’s future and his assessment will have an impact on the bench. Pioli is contracted to the club for another year but his stay is not a given.

In Serie A, the feeling is positive due to the guarantee of a place in the Champions League for 2024-25, but the clash with Inter on 22 April and the possibility of them celebrating the Scudetto in the derby would worsen the view.

For the Europa League, who lifts the trophy will be decisive because the opinions would change if the winner were Liverpool or Bayer Leverkusen compared to if it were Roma. The Rossoneri would not accept a possible triumph of a team very distant from Milan in the league.

If he were to be sacked then who would the replacement be? A report yesterday suggested that any replacement is very likely to come from abroad.

  1. “For the Europa League, who lifts the trophy will be decisive because the opinions would change if the winner were Liverpool or Bayer Leverkusen compared to if it were Roma.”
    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Let’s roll back to the beginning:

    1. If Milan are eliminated from UCL group stage, Pioli will likely lose his job.

    2. Milan goes ‘all in’ for Coppa Italia and try to go to Dublin, otherwise Pioli will be sacked.

    3. Now Milan goes ‘all in’ for Europe League considering there is no competition left to fight for. In case Milan won’t go to Dublin, Pioli will be fired.

Aaaaand now, who will win Europe League will be decisive lol. If Bayer or Liverpool wins, then it is fine, it doesn’t ‘hurt’ our ego.

One honest question to the board, what is your actual plan?

We had a decent chance to sign Motta.
Why decision was so hard to take?

Our train went out of its direction last year in winter already. What are we waiting for?

How much worse it should get?

If losing to Roma is not enough, then what else is needed?
