GdS: Why Giampaolo cannot count on Paqueta or Leao yet

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Marco Giampaolo is not yet ready to entrust Lucas Paqueta or Rafael Leao entirely, a report claims.

Paqueta arrived officially in January in a €35million deal from Brazilian side Flamengo and impressed under previous Rossoneri head coach Gennaro Gattuso.

Despite this, he did not start in the 1-0 win over Brescia in the most recent Serie A fixture, instead coming off the bench for the final 25 minutes.

Leao meanwhile joined from Ligue 1 club Lille in the summer, costing €28million, but the Portugal U21 international has played even less than Paqueta thus far with just 15 minutes under his belt.

This is despite an impressive showing in preseason and a bright performance off the bench in the dismal 1-0 defeat to Udinese to begin the season.

According to Thursday’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport – as cited by MilanNews – Giampaolo believes that the pair are not yet disciplined enough and as such, he cannot totally trust them to start every game.

It is worth nothing that Leao will also have to fight for a starting spot with Ante Rebic, Suso, Samu Castillejo and Krzysztof Piatek, while Paqueta has Hakan Calhanoglu and Giacomo Bonaventura on his side.
