GdS: Why Milan are clinging on to strategy of not loaning out Daniel Maldini

Daniel Maldini has been linked with a loan move to SPAL over the last 24 hours but it’s a hypothesis that died very quickly. The youngster will remain at AC Milan and there is a clear strategy behind that.

SPAL could have been a good destination for the attacking midfielder as the Milan-owned striker Lorenzo Colombo plays there. The two could have linked up again, therefore, after playing a lot together in the Primavera.

However, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews), Milan’s strategy on Maldini is clear. They want to keep him and let him grow with the help of experienced players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud.

One could argue that a loan would do him better as it would guarantee playing time, but that isn’t always the case. Marco Brescianini is currently on loan at Monza and he hasn’t been getting much playing time at all, which you can read about here.

  1. Loan him out next season. With the arrival of Adli I doubt his playing time will increase. And please don’t loan him to a serie b club!

  2. It is maybe because his father never played for a different club? They will ruin him in the end by not loaning him out so he can get play time, he was supposed to have 40-50 first team matches in his legs already.

    1. Pioli doesn’t play him when he can. When we’re battering teams like cagliari and salernitana he only subs him in in the 85th minute.

      1. In all fairness, Maldini has not looked particularly impressive when given a chance but that may be due to lack of consistent opportunities. A loan out though would be a good solution. Ideally to a low Serie A club but a Serie B club would work too as long as he gets consistent minutes. This season has been a setback for his development due to the lack of minutes having shown little improvement over his cameos for the first team last season.

        1. people like zlatan and leao speak highly of him. Pioli gets good results with this squad but the only baffling thing that he does is not letting daniel play when we’re up by 3 against genoa and cagliari.

  3. with 5 substitution per match i wonder how bad he is in Pioli eyes not given more minutes and player that doesn’t hv room for improvement like Krunic always gets more.
He has to take step back in order to improve. Look how Pobega took benefit this way

  4. When he played he wasnt worst on pitch, far from that.

Tonali needed time too. Maldini is a homegrown talent, essential due to serie a rules.

Brahim had multiple chances, same Bakayoko etc. Every coach has some players he prefers and dislikes and Pioli doesnt like Daniel, but loves Krunic
