GdS: Too many yellows and no consistency – Analysing the referee of PSG vs. Milan

By Isak Möller -

Slavko Vincic officiated the clash between AC Milan and PSG last night, dishing out four yellow cards to the Rossoneri. The Slovenian, regardless if he handed out too many cards or not, lacked consistency.

Malick Thiaw and Rade Krunic were both booked within the first ten minutes, with the referee setting the tone early. However, as highlighted by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), he then didn’t follow his own standards.

For example, Warren Zaire-Emery committed a foul on Olivier Giroud shortly after the first two yellow cards and wasn’t punished by the referee. VAR also needed to step in for a missed four in Milan’s favour on PSG’s 2-0 goal, which was disallowed.

Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu were both booked for very minor fouls in the second half, while Randal Kolo Muani escaped without a card on a more serious foul. At the end of the game, Rafael Leao shouted ‘f*ck you’ one metre from the referee and wasn’t punished either.

In short, the referee had no consistency whatsoever with the cards and in this game, it hurt Milan more.

    1. At least he showed mercy with a deserved second yellow for Tomori. True that the first one was a joke, but still he could sent him off with that challenge from behind.

  1. Mr Gbenga as a fellow 9ja…Forget the referee, we all Know our coach hurt milan more than the referee….that’s why Calabria the Captain was brutally honest and criticize the way the team was set out as unbalanced…the next thing your coach said was that his captain was wrong….. You can imagine, if the coach was on convincing enough, the captain will be the first to echoe it and support the coach…now there is a tension between coach and captain..is it the referees faults again? No…your coach is a scam

  2. He was like if we were Slovan Bratislava and PSG was Real Madrid ,years of decay made that noone is afraid of us and ref’s doesnt show any respect as they should

  3. We always got disadavantages from referee in Champions League.

I still remember how disgusting the referee gave red card to Kessie when we played Atletico or when we played Porto. Last season also really crazy when Tomori got red card when we played Chelsea.

I can bet the referee will give big advantages to PSG again.

  4. “Warren Zaire-Emery committed a foul on Olivier Giroud shortly after the first two yellow cards and wasn’t punished by the referee”

Literally said this in my rating write up.
Ref was appalling. Giroud got clipped from behind on his ankles. Ref had it out for us. It kept our defense from being aggressive which helped PSG.
