GFFN: Maignan absent from France training due to a ‘little concern’

By Oliver Fisher -

Mike Maignan did not train with the rest of the France squad on Tuesday as they continue to prepare for the friendlies against Germany and Chile, it is claimed.

As the website GFFN reports, there were initial concerns about the conditions of Lucas Hernandez, Ibrahima Konaté and Ousmane Dembélé but all three trained at Clairefontaine yesterday to dispel any worries.

On the other hand, Maignan was absent despite the fact that what filtered from Milan was that he had avoided any kind of muscle injury after making a painful looking save against Verona on Sunday.

The substitute Matteo Gabbia had to take goal kicks towards the end of the game as Maignan almost did the splits when making a stop.

The goalkeeper had a ‘little concern’ according to France head coach Didier Deschamps and thus he is being evaluated by the medical staff rather than risked.

Les Bleus have their first game against Germany on Saturday and then they face Chile on Tuesday in what is the last international break before the European Championships this summer.

Maignan now faces a race to be fit for that first game but if he is forced to miss it then RC Lens’ Brice Samba is the number two, with West Ham United’s Alphonse Areola the third choice.

  1. They broke him before he even started.

You’d think Milan has the worst medical staff in the whole wide world, but then you realize that there is also French NT medical which is on a whole different lvl of butchery.

  2. Oh boy… The man is certainly a very solid, reliable goalkeeper, but he’s also problematic physically speaking… Or at least so goddamn fvckin’ unlucky. I guess it would be really better to negotiate him, before it is to late…
