Referee Jesus Gil Manzano got the major calls right during AC Milan’s 3-1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb last night, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The paper (via SempreMilan) writes that the assignment of the penalty kick that gave Milan the lead on 45 minutes was correct. The pass from Tomori to Leao inside the box found the Portuguese who was being posted up by Sutalo with his back to goal.
However, the intervention from the former Atalanta and Hellas Verona defender is a foul as he took Leao’s leg first, and the Spanish referee Gil Manzano had no doubts in pointing to the penalty spot.
He was also right to give Orsic a yellow card in the 29th minute of the second half. With the score at 2-1 for the Rossoneri, the Croatian forward – who scored a few minutes earner – was met by Bennacer just inside the area.
There was a very slight contact between the two, but Orsic lets himself fall to the ground in a blatant way, not justified by the extent of the contact. It was an unavoidable booking, with Gil Manzano showing the card to Orsic making the gesture of the dive with his hand.
The referee did well although i’m not that sure for the penalty kick…
