Giornale: Pioli has €6m contract on the table from another Serie A club

By Oliver Fisher -

Stefano Pioli still has a year left on his contract with AC Milan, but his farewell at the end of the season is now practically a certainty. However, he might not have to wait long to get back into work.

According to what is being reported by Il Giornale (via MilanNews), Pioli is actually in pole position to take Calzona’s place at the helm of Napoli and there have already been positive contacts between the Azzurri and the entourage of the Milan bos.

A two-year contract worth €3m net per year plus bonuses is ready for Pioli to sign, something that he would be free to do if the reports are true and Milan part ways with him after the final three league games.

Pioli’s adventure on the Milan bench is expected end after four and a half years, in which management achievements such as bringing them back to being a consistent participant in the Champions League and the 19th Scudetto win.

His numbers with the Rossoneri at present read as follows: 237 matches, 131 wins, 55 draws, 51 defeats, 428 goals scored and 275 goals conceded. That seems to have been enough to convince Napoli that he is the right man to lead them into a new era.

It was recently estimated that Pioli and his staff – when factoring in remaining salaries and taxes – would cost the club around €10m in order to terminate their contracts early. Finding an agreement on severance pay may therefore not be easy, so if he had another job lined up it would be a relief.

    1. That would be a disrespectful way to end 4.5 years relationship…we are thankful for not being midtable team anymore with thec19th title and champions league semifinalest.. Milan is now very predictable and time for fresh ideas but we can’t forget the work he did.

      1. Agree, let’s end gracefully. Pioli did what he was supposed to. He gave us stability; Let’s not forget how we were prior to him. His cycle ended (probably ended last year but whatever). Thank you for the scudetto and the UCL semis; but it’s time to move on.

    2. Can’t do that as Serie A has a restriction in which a coach can’t train two different teams in the same season

  1. Pioli greatly contributed in bringing Milan this far. He will go into the books as one of the best coach Milan had despite the setbacks (which is very normal).

  2. Good for the man. Notwithstanding how toxic we can get on this forum, Pioli deserves some respect for bringing us one of the most beautiful scudetti in years. Before him we were has beens and banter fodder. Plus he’s been pure class when surrounded by discussions on his job security not once but twice. And the man works well with everyone despite a revolving door of sporting directors and managers. Fare thee well mister! You earned my respect long ago.

    1. One less rival for next season’s title, nevermind that they’re going to lose Osimhen and possibly Kvara as well.

  3. Pioli has always been a mediocre coach,
Maldini actually did more than Pioli to hand us the scudetto,
Take Maldini out of the equation Pioli’s mediocrity became so obvious,
Losing back to back to back derby against inter was the last straw that broke the camel’s back for Maldini unfortunately he paid the price earlier instead of Pioli.
