Giornale: The three players who must become leaders of a young Milan squad

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have a young squad and a lot of players within it that have only been in Serie A for just over a year, meaning that leadership will be needed from some of the more experienced members.

This morning’s edition of Il Giornale (via MilanNews) points at the departures of Simon Kjaer and Olivier Giroud at the end of last season. The first is still a free agent, the second went to Los Angeles FC, and in both cases Milan lost undisputed leaders of the dressing room.

The Rossoneri group at present is made up of young players who come from different countries abroad, with many languages and backgrounds all mixing together under the eyes of the new head coach Paulo Fonseca and his staff.

What this group therefore needs is one or two authoritative leader-type figures capable of pointing out mistakes and indicating the way to eliminate them, sort of like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Kjaer did when they first arrived.

Who can replace Kjaer and Giroud as the new leaders of Fonseca’s Milan? Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez and new signing Alvaro Morata have the clear task of replacing them. The first two they have now been at the club a few years, while the striker is in his 30s and has won nearly everything.
