Olivier Giroud has admitted that being at AC Milan has given him a second youth of sorts, and he also reflected on his goal in the quarter-final against Napoli.
It has been an ideal 48 hours for Giroud as he not only netted the goal that effectively booked Milan’s place in the final four of the Champions League but he also attended Casa Milan yesterday and put pen to paper on a new contract.
After signing his new deal the striker spoke with Milan TV to explain what it means to extend his stay with the Rossoneri.
“It’s a confirmation that I’m part of the Milan family. I received a wonderful welcome, and since I spoke with the management I’ve really liked the project of the great Milan and I’m proud of everything I’ve done, but I want to do even more,” he said.
“It smells like a second youth. I’m motivated, determined to help the team for the great Milan. When I was little it was the team, I’m here to do good things and I want to continue like this.”
On the semi-final: “A special emotion. This match [away against Napoli] was decisive in the Scudetto race last year, I wanted to do my best for the team. I wanted to play this match to go to the semi-final.
“I was waiting for the goal after missing the penalty and I wanted to do everything to score because I was a little disappointed but I never gave up. Always believe in it until the end: these are my values.”
On the curse of the number nine: “It’s just a number, I like it. Maybe because I knew I could do good things for the team. I hope to continue like this and that this number nine can score a little more goals.”
On becoming top scorer: “Becoming Milan’s top scorer at 36-37 I don’t think so, but it’s more important to be in the most important moments of the season to help the squad win.”
On the fans: “I’m not surprised, I knew it was a warm atmosphere at San Siro, but when we play away from home I’m very proud to be part of the Milan family for them too, they give fantastic support. They made a great song for me and I try to do everything to hear it in every game.”
