Giroud’s chance to shine for France as Benzema withdraws from World Cup

Olivier Giroud was already expected to play an important role for France at the World Cup, but the responsibility has increased amid Karim Benzema’s injury. The 36-year-old, therefore, will have the chance to shine.

Giroud has been a key player for Milan this season, scoring nine goals and bagging five assists in 19 appearances. The World Cup comes at a good time form-wise for him, therefore, and also in terms of his condition with very few injury problems.

Benzema has been ruled out of the World Cup due to a new thigh injury and Giroud will thus be the starting striker for the entire tournament. Didier Deschamps already is a big fan of the Milan man and if he can find the back of the net, there will be no reason to move him.

Giroud is also just two goals away from equalling Thierry Henry’s goalscoring record for France (51 goals). There’s a lot at stake for the striker, in other words, but he arrives in great form and the guaranteed playing time will only do him good.
