Tuttosport: Giroud takes a chance he wasn’t expecting to be the match-winner

By Oliver Fisher -

Olivier Giroud was not even meant to start the game against Sampdoria last night, but he did so and he managed to be decisive yet again.

In the build-up to the game several sources reported that it would be Divock Origi who got the nod over the Frenchman who would be allowed to rest, but then it became apparent that the Belgian had some muscle tightness and was not risked so Giroud led the line.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes, Giroud used the opportunity he wasn’t expected and took it with both hands, scoring a penalty inside the final 20 minutes to be the match winner against Sampdoria.

As a result, Milan take home three previous points despite spending the entire second half outnumbered after Rafael Leao’s sending off, meaning the winger will now miss next Sunday’s match against Napoli and it could well be that it is up to Giroud to lead the line once again.
