Giroud talks through goal involvements and insists Milan must think ‘one match at a time’

By Oliver Fisher -

Olivier Giroud was happy with how AC Milan responded after the Coppa Italia exit in midweek, as he had a big hand in the victory over AS Roma.

Milan secured a very important three points at San Siro on Sunday night, beating Roma 3-1 to consolidate third place and widen the gap over fifth place to nine points.

Giroud had a hand in two goals, scoring the one that made it 2-0 when a corner was taken short and crossed to the back post where Kjaer knocked it back over for him to head home from close range.

Then, in the 84th minute, Milan did finally put the game to bed and the striker was again involved. A ball was played into his path and he played a perfect backheel flick in behind to Theo Hernandez, who hammered a shot in off the bar.

At the end of the game Giroud spoke to DAZN to reflect on what was a job well done against a Roma side they dropped points against at home last season. MilanNews relayed his comments.

It was a much-needed win…

“It was important to win to bounce back, we wanted to bounce back after Atalanta, we were very disappointed. There are still many games, we have to concentrate on our games, then there will be the Europa League. We never give up. They are proud of the spirit of team we had today.”

You got a lovely assist for Theo’s goal…

“Kjaer was good on my goal, I knew he would set me up. It wasn’t my most difficult goal, but I’m happy to have scored because it’s been a while since I scored at San Siro in the league.

“Me and Theo know each other well, I knew he would go behind me, I was a bit lucky because the ball passed under the opponent’s legs. Theo scored a great goal.”

Milan remain nine points from first place…

“We have to concentrate only on ourselves, thinking about one match at a time. Whoever goes slowly goes healthy and goes far (smiles). Then we hope that those in front make mistakes. It’s the first match of the second half of the season…”
