GdS: Giroud and Ibrahimovic to lead Milan’s attack as Origi doubts continue

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is back in the AC Milan squad and is increasing his workload in view of a return to the field sooner rather than later, a report claims.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Ibrahimovic – who returned to the squad for the game back on February 10 against Torino – is getting better each day and soon his return will move to the field rather than just being in the dugout.

There are records up for grabs, as Zlatan could become the oldest scorer in Serie A at 41 years and over 146 days, dethroning an ex-Milan player in Billy Costacurta. Olivier Giroud has been working overtime this season and has done so well, but he turns 37 this year and therefore needs to manage his game time.

This year Giroud is the oldest player in Europe to have participated in more than 10 goals, with 7 goals and 4 assists overall, and he should lead the line for the rest of the season. In 2023-24, he is likely to play the role of mentor for a new arrival.

Then there is Divock Origi, who signed for free from Liverpool and is struggling to find form due to various physical issues. Nonetheless he has been fit for a few weeks now and is failing to make an impact, and against Monza he had only one successful pass out of five attempted.

With his disappointing season so far, it seems more likely that Giroud and Ibrahimovic will lead the attack for the rest of the season, but the competition could also unlock the Belgian.

  1. It’s so, so tiring to read stories that elaborate the difficulties of the tactical system, how it isn’t working properly. Then stories pointing out individuals as failing to achieve properly, such as Origi.

Is it the system, is it the individual player? Or, is it a system which the players are trying to work together to perform?

    Make up your minds.

  2. Yes it’s great Zlatan is back ,he motivates the team wether he plays of not …sure he will be back on the pitch soon ,he may be a certain age ,but his desire to win and his enthusiasm such an important asset .
Likewise with my favourite player Olivier Giroud who has done amazing for us since his arrival..let me just say this ,plenty more goals from him ,and it will be quite a way ahead before he hangs up his boots ,wouldn’t be surprised to see him still playing for France at the euros ..Coming to the game against Atalanta I am very confident of a win ,and that Olivier Giroud will score ,the team is much more settled again and there is a conviction and belief..
    So good times ahead .
