Giroud insists Milan ‘can do more’ and believes derby could be a ‘turning points’ – video

By Oliver Fisher -

Olivier Giroud believes that the AC Milan fans deserve much better than what they have seen over the past few weeks, and described the derby as a potential turning point.

Milan conceded three goals in an 11-minute spell in the first half against Sassuolo en route to a 5-2 defeat that continues the awful start to 2023, and at the end of the match Giroud spoke to Milan TV to reflect on the performance.

“I have the feeling that all things are not going the right way and that we can do more, giving everything on the pitch for our fans who always sing until the end. I’m very disappointed for us but also for them they don’t deserve this,” he said.

“We need to raise the level and do more starting from Inter next week. We need to defend better all together and work more concentrated. The attitude wasn’t at its best for the whole match that is being played until the 95th. I try to encourage my team-mates but it’s a difficult period and we must all work and learn together.

“The derby will become a turning point in our season because we need to raise the level and we need to win again.”

  1. Lol, it will be another running over, there’s too much space when we defend. A quick one-two will split the whole team wide open

  2. Giroud, so funny guy, LOL. We concieded in row: 2,3,4 and now 5 goals in last games. Inter can score 6 against this kind of opponent. But Giroud is still good player if he can be compered to Rebi, Origi, Saelemakers, Messis etc.

      1. that match they were down a man due to a red card. i remember a milan match when we had a man advantage and couldnt score a goal… Milan is gonna get another batch of goals on the derby. Cant even beat sasuolo at home

      2. Empoli on the other hand is a team. Milan is just a bunch of individuals who aren’t committed to anything at the moment and have the worst GK and defense in whole Europe. Inter will trash us in a more horrible way we can even think of.

    1. Saelemaekers is literally one of 2 players that have actually been good past Christmas. People need to stop sh***ing on this guy, if you play a RM as a RW you will not get a great RW magically. He has his strengths and brings balance to our team, especially when Calabria is too slow to trace back. Saelemaekers can’t help the fact that noone else bar Tonali makes an effort for the past 4 games.

In fact, he was often finding himself alone attacking yesterday, with Giroud walking meters behind him not even making a run.

I don’t know why, but this team is eyeing lazy, as we used to press very high and even Giroud was constantly running.

  3. Giroud is delusional, like Pioli.
    Complete change required against Inter.
Vasquez, Kjaer, Gabbia, Thiaw, Kalulu, Ballo-Toure to try and stop an Inter goal-fest. Krunic and Pobega to play holding mid – CDK, Leao and Lazetic/Origi interchanging upfront. Armband to Kjaer, Calabria back to school; Giroud and Theo – enforced 2 weeks holiday to prepare for Champions League – We are in a massive fight to ensure top 4 and we need to stop the rot.

  4. I don’t know how many goals will inter score but at this time its one of those game where either you help revive our flattering season or go bust….the Derby with inter will bring something extra so its like all in or all out….the defeat will highly likely push us beyond unthinkable of even qualifying for 4th spot….so either we get ourself of ending season on a high or go down hill….

  5. I don’t understand why some people are criticising Olivier Giroud..The fact is I think he and Origi did really well ..Olivier was unlucky with a goal that was marginally offside ,but scored with a typical Giroud header …Giroud always needs service to him ,within the 18 yard area he is simply the best …He has never been a man with speed ,but he more than makes up for that with his speed of thought ,the first few yards are in his head ,he has uncanny ability to be in the right place at the right time this is a great skill and not luck ..He will always Score goals if service is provided for him…I was very impressed with another player who came off the bench ,Divik Origi ,,he looked really sharp fit ,fast and strong ,and he linked up superbly with Olivier Giroud..it’s the best I have seen Origi in a AC Milan shirt …Also what a terrific goal he scored..
If Origi stays fit then maybe his form perhaps will continue…I would love to see him start alongside Giroud against inter ..lots more goals to come from Olivier …never ever write this man off…all is not lost still plenty to play for …We need to sort out our defence ,as the best line of attack is a strong defence .
