GdS: Giroud to work overtime as Pioli opts against rotation in pursuit of second place

By Oliver Fisher -

It feels as though Stefano Pioli cannot do without Olivier Giroud at the moment and he will start again tonight in the home match against Salernitana, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) this morning reports that in recent days it was thought the Rossoneri coach could rotate the team a bit after a hard fought draw against Spurs in midweek that took a lot out of the team mentally and physically.

However, it instead seems that he will make just one change to the team that took to the field in London and it is a forced one as Alexis Saelemaerkes will come in at right wing-back for Junior Messias who got injured against Tottenham and will be out for a month.

There will be no other changes including in attack where Giroud will once again lead the line. Although he has played a lot in recent weeks, Pioli will still rely on the French centre-forward with Ibrahimovic, Origi and Rebic all on the bench.

It is not a surprise that Zlatan is not ready to start yet given the nine-month break due to injury, but the other two are having a rather disappointing season and so Giroud will once again be forced to work overtime.

  1. Fantastic Olivier Giroud should lead the line..
What a centre forward he is inside the 18 yard area
the best anywhere ..I would like to see salamakers
get a start also ,and with rafeol leao alongside Olivier i expect us to win by two clear goals .
What a manager we have in Stefani pioli ,who makes his own decisions..He knows his best line ups .
    We are AC Milan

  2. Pioli is such a fool. He has Ibra ready and Giroud clearly needs a rest but he still won’t change. Same with Tonali. He has been poor and could use a rest but still starting every game. If you can’t rest some players against Salernitana , when can you? He only makes a change when injury forces him to.
