Olivier Giroud was a key player for AC Milan in their Scudetto-winning clash against Sassuolo as he found the back of the net twice. The Frenchman himself is still over the moon thanks to it.
Giroud arrived from Chelsea ahead of this past season and it’s safe to say that it was a great signing by Paolo Maldini. With 14 goals in all competitions, some of them very important ones, he managed to break the No.9 curse at Milan.
Speaking to Telefoot, as cited by MilanNews, the striker discussed the Scudetto and also highlighted that emotions were running high for the Sassuolo game. In spite of his experience, it was a situation that came with great pressure.
“Ten years after the title won with Montpellier it was great to win with Milan, it’s all like a dream. I’m proud to be one of the great Milan names. Ibrahimovic was the engine, the locomotive of this group. It was a united and determined group that fought for the title.
“Sassuolo brace? Leao’s assist made the difference, I didn’t ask questions and I shot straight away. When I saw the ball in the back of the net, it was a crazy emotion but also a relief. I think you saw my emotion after the second goal, it was incredible,” he stated.
Giroud has a contract with the club until 2023 and it remains to be seen if he can score even more goals next season. Given that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be out for 7-8 months, the Frenchman will get a lot of playing time.
