Giroud ‘very happy’ with 90 minutes against Bologna and discusses Origi competition

Olivier Giroud managed to get on the scoresheet for the first time this season, scoring the second goal for AC Milan against Bologna this evening. Afterwards, he was very happy with his and the team’s performance.

The Frenchman got the chance from start for the first time this season after struggling with muscle fatigue for the first two rounds. Although his impact wasn’t always that notable, he was at the right place at the right time for the second goal.

Speaking to Sky Italia and DAZN, as cited by MilanNews, Giroud shared his thoughts on the lovely volley finish that got him on the scoresheet. He was also very happy with the team performance, as Milan remain unbeaten.

On the game and the return as a starter…

“I think the team played a very good game with a lot of solidity until the end. I’m very happy to have played the whole game, I hadn’t played for 90 minutes since July 31st. I needed this physically and even scoring gives you confidence. I don’t think everything is perfect, but we are confident because we have so much quality forward. I think we need time to work but it is a great pleasure to play with these players.”

On Origi…

“Origi is back after a long unlucky period. He has been injured for a long time, but now he is fine and is doing his best to be ready to take the field. He is a very strong player, with him there is even more competition and it is a positive thing.”

On the unbeaten run…

“As I always say, every day you need to start work again. We take the games one at a time. We are 19 games unbeaten and now we have to continue with this team spirit and give our all.”

It remains to be seen if Giroud will start on Tuesday (against Sassuolo) or if Divock Origi will get the chance instead. It’s likely that Giroud could be benched to preserve some energy, seeing as the upcoming schedule is very tight.
