Guardiola heaps praise on Reijnders: “One of the best signings in the club’s history”

Pep Guardiola was full of praise for Tijjani Reijnders after his outstanding Manchester City debut in which he racked up two goal contributions.

Last month, Reijnders said goodbye to Milan in favour of a new experience in the Premier League, in what could become a club-record sale for the Rossoneri. He joined Guardiola at Manchester City, and made a good first impression at the Club World Cup.

Reijnders marked his Premier League debut for City with a goal and an assist. After the 4-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers, manager Guardiola had plenty of positive words for the Dutchman.

“A really good performance. A lovely lad who has made his mark from day one. With his speed he can help in midfield. He was exceptional at AC Milan and with the national team,” he said (via MilanNews).

“We knew he would be a key signing for Manchester City in the coming years; he is one of the best signings in the club’s history.”

Milan have had to embark on yet another midfield rebuild, their second in three years after the sale of Sandro Tonali. Samuele Ricci, Luka Modric and Ardon Jashari have arrived, with the hope being that the department as a collective improves.

  1. Yup we should get 80 mil at the very least for Tijani. It’s freaking City and EPL we’re talking about. It’s an everyday scenery to see many players coming above his price with much much less impact.

      1. Yes. But he probably did it so he can present better financial report to Gerry. Balanced the books with that transfer and there was no time to negotiate.

      2. I remember when Milan signed him you and some others on this blog said he was not Milan material. So, according to you, because he was not a Maldini signing, he was not good enough for Milan. And now, suddenly, he was a top player that Furlani is tucked up to sell. Be truthful and honest

        1. Nobody brought up Maldini but you donkey.

This is about not selling him for maximum value to one of the richest clubs in the world. That is on Furlani, has nothing to do with Maldini or anyone else for that matter

  2. Moves to a “tougher” league, and plays better yesterday in his first game, than he EVER played for us (and this is from someone who thinks he was our best player last season).

Shows what understanding your role AND trusting the quality around you can do for a players confidence.

    1. Guardiola out him almost in line with Haaland when they were in attack. Milan never got proper cover for him, he had to defend too much.

    2. Reijnders was always an attacking 8, at City hes the KDB replacement so will get plenty of chances to use his box to box ability.

At Milan, he was occasionally needed to play as a double pivot, which meant more tracking back and less driving forward. Still excellent for us but im sure most of us aren’t surprised hes taking to Pep-ball like a duck to water.

The main gripe, which has been voiced by many, is not that he left more that we easily could have got more. 55mn euros fixed is a steal in this market given his stats, and contractual situation.

      1. Reijnders isn’t KDBs replacement. Cherki is KDBs replacement which has him sitting in the Number 10 position behind Haaland. Reijnders plays in the double pivot role doing exactly what Gundogan did alongside Rodri back in 2023 which is driving forward from deep.

          1. Did you watch the game or even read the lineup? Bernardo Silva was playing in the number 10 slot. Cherki is literally the replacement that Man City purchased for KDB when KDB left.
Reijnders does EXACTLY what Gundogan used to do

    3. I remember when Milan signed him you and some others on this blog said he was not Milan material. So, according to you, because he was not a Maldini signing, he was not good enough for Milan. And now, suddenly, he was a top player that Furlani is tucked up to sell. Be truthful and honest

  3. I despise Reijnders after the renewal and calling a day a few months earlier. But make no mistake, this is a shishow created by Milan. Furlani put his pants down for a player easily valued at least 100m (if Liverpool paid what they paid for Wirtz, not sure why Tijji’s worth would be less). 55m +15-20m in bonuses was a steal and I would go further and suspect even bad faith in this deal since it makes no sense…. this is the Furlani’s way unfortunately, a guy who knows zero about football

    1. You despise Reijnders for moving to city to play in a string team with a World Class coach and compete for trophies?! Instead of stalling his career at a club going nowhere fast, run by clowns who only want to compete for Top4 every season?

      LLMAO!!!!!

  4. I really don’t understand this deal. If someone can make logical sense why it is so low, please tell me because it really does not make sense. Did we cash in early at a low ball number just so we could get the summer market going quickly with signings. The price just doesn’t make sense and if that was truly his valuation then don’t sell him …. he was worth more to the club.

    1. I doubt it was to make quick transfers since Jashari one took 2 months, over 1M difference. I think it was so the deal goes into last financial year and that made it positive, Milan made profit. I really think Furlani hurried so he has 1 positive to show to the boss, after Milan finished 8th and was out of CL so early. He probably said we won the financial Scudetto again, and Gerry loved that.

  5. On x, many man city fans were saying thank you milan, and that they probably owe milan $100million more. Even in their eyes it was a steal. Milan should have sold him for no less than £100mill and hold out. But then it may have taken longer to get other players.

  6. We are Profit Club we not club like M.City.They buy and develop for titles, olso let free like de Brune etc
Only we buy players for selling and that is.
With this owners we nothing will acchive at future exept profit.

  7. enough of shietty furlani transfer.. reijnders is the last batch of that.. at this point really glad that Tare becomes the sporting director and managed to coax newcastle pocket for thiaw, hope there will be no more cheap selling of the players.

  8. It is only days since I posted how amazing Tiji was here and all I heard back was, he was good not amazing, bla bla bla.
This forum is full of people who don’t watch games and just play FIFA.
Anyone with a brain knows he was our best attacking midfield since Kaka.
    What an immense loss!
Now we are back to square one like after selling tonali.
How can we ever compete at the top again when we sell our best player for peanuts .

    For what Jashari?

Couldn’t we have sold musah and bought Ricci and modric?
Tiji had just signed a new contract.

Not to mention selling Theo for Estupido and Thiaw for de winter.

Oh yes it’s great, look at all our money!
    Dense club with dense fans.
    No ambition!
Watching highlights of Tiji last night, felt like a nightmare this morning

  9. what happened was Furlani had an orgasm the moment he got the first offer. “it’s difficult to resist, my son”

  10. Reinjnders is worth more than 55m man. I just watched Man U vs Arsenal and saw the crap the 70+m signed players were playing.

I hope there is serious bonus to this deal though.
Meanwhile, kudos to him on his debut game.

  11. To say we sold him early to balance the books is ridiculous. You can declare losses of up to 70 million euros over 3 years, we were profitable for the previous 2. Selling urgently in the name of balancing last year accomplishes nothing for us is any way possible. We also had also sold for at least 90 million, not counting the wages of players who left this window, without. That leaves a budget of a minimum of 160 euros. This to reinforce a team that needs to compete in Coppa and Serie A.

    2. He had a long term deal at a favourable wage. So there wasn’t an urgency on that end either.

  12. Where’s that dude that was ripping on everyone that felt the price was way too low? He’s going to be the best midfielder in the EPL. AND WE SOLD HIM FOR UNDER 80 MILLION! lol. I can’t with some of these people. No understanding of comparative market analysis and no appreciation of actual player value. City jumped at this and thought “oh crap, really? I have that much $ in my pocket right now. Here you go!”. They would have paid 90 million for him, as it’s clear how much they admired him. If you don’t know the value of your product, you shouldn’t be in charge. fools…

  13. We are just a company runner. Milan sacrificed the chance to win champion and titles, and gave other team the best players, their team will win many titles

Who lose the most, are the Milan fans

  14. And to those people who praised/support the mgnt, even with this summer transfers (especially the defenders),

want to say “thank you”, really
