Guðný Árnadóttir on playing for Milan Women, life in Italy and clash vs. Roma – video

By Steph Insixiengmay -

It took a year for Guðný Árnadóttir to make an impact in red and black, but some would say it’s been worth the wait. The Icelandic defender has proven to be an astute signing, as she’s talented enough to stop some of the world’s best forwards.

Though Árnadóttir has mainly been brought on in the latter stages of matches as a way of ‘saving’ the games, her impact has been quite noticeable. She will also most likely start in the Rossonere’s match against Roma on Sunday. The game will take place at 12:30 CET.

The defender recently gave an interview to Milan TV. Here are her words on playing for Milan, spending a season on loan in Napoli, and about this Sunday’s game against Roma.

On the victory over Napoli: It’s always important to get back to winning ways after losing. So it felt good. We had a tough match. So playing with one less [player] in the second half, it brought us all together to play like this. So I feel like we did good with the situations that came up in the game. So it felt like coming back to winning ways.

On how she feels about returning to Napoli: It was special. It felt really good. It felt a little bit like homecoming back to Napoli and feeling little Napoli ‘craziness’, the music, and the fireworks before the game. And it was a lot of fun.

Guðný on how playing for Napoli helped her adjust to Italy and Serie A: It definitely helped me being there on loan before coming here. It helped me get used to the country, even if it’s different in Napoli and Milan, but like the language and just the Italian League. So it definitely prepared me well, I think the chemistry is good.

On learning from the older players: I think age doesn’t really matter, but when it comes to playing football, that doesn’t really matter. But we can definitely learn something from the experience players like Laura Agard and Laura Fusetti.

On how she feels about the match against Roma: I’m expecting a good game, a tough game. Roma has a good team and so do we. It’s going to be a really tough game for us, an important one. So we’re gonna use the week and prepare well for the game and hopefully, we get a good result.

About the Coppa Italia Femminile loss, and the team’s goals for the season: Definitely, I think so. I wasn’t here [for the game], but I think always after you lose a game and game is important, you always want to come back, be stronger and show that you’re better. [If] the team just plays more together, gets more together as a team then obviously, we want to go to every game to win. So that’s our goal. That’s my goal. I want to help the team win the game.
