Hernandez says Milan lack ‘team leader’ without Ibrahimovic and shuts down exit rumours

By Isak Möller -

Interviewed by Sky Italia, as cited by MilanNews.it, Theo Hernandez spoke about various topics including the season restart, his experience at Milan thus far and the positive impact of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Ever since his arrival at the club, the Frenchman has been a smashing success for the Rossoneri, quickly becoming a key player in what has been a difficult season. In fact, he has five league goals to his name, making him the second-best goalscorer.

Milan managed to snatch him from Real Madrid for just €20m (via Transfermarkt) and the value has since doubled, if not more. It’s arguable Paolo Maldini’s best signing at the club, and it’s no surprise that we are talking about a left-back in this regard.

In the interview, Hernandez took the opportunity to thank his teammates and Maldini for believing in him. He also decided to shut down the exit rumours, which are inevitable given his personal success this season.

“I’m very happy to be at Milan, I thank my teammates and Maldini who brought me here. I’m very happy that the fans are satisfied with my work, I want to continue to give my best.

“We are working to finish as high as possible, it hasn’t been an easy season so far but we are trying. We want to do the best we can for next season, in the best possible way. We will miss the support of our fans.

“Rumours? I came here to stay at Milan, I’m having a great season, there is only Milan in my mind, the fans love me, I love the fans and this is the most important thing.

“Ibrahimovic? He’s a player who has given us a lot since he arrived, we all know him, he is one who gives everything and now that he’s injured, we lack a team leader. We hope that he will come back soon,” he concluded.
