Watch: Highlights as Jimenez scores brace in Milan Futuro’s first game and win

Milan Futuro played their first official game this evening as they faced Lecco in the Coppa Italia Serie C. While there were some nerves before the clash, the Rossoneri convincingly clinched the win in the end as Alex Jimenez scored a brace.

Daniele Bonera fielded a strong, albeit young, starting XI as the likes of Alex Jimenez, Davide Bartesaghi, Mattia Liberali and Francesco Camarda played from the first minute. While it wasn’t complete dominance at the start, the scoreline was convincing in the end.

Liberali, who was brilliant during the US pre-season, opened the scoring as he capitalised on a mistake by the Lecco goalkeeper. All he needed to do was hit the target and he did so well with his weaker foot.

Then, in the 49th minute, the home side were awarded a penalty due to a fould by Diego Sia, Fortunately for Milan Futuro, the goalkeeper Lapo Nava made an absolutely stunning penalty save as he dove the right way and was fully stretched.

So instead of 1-1, Milan were able to double their lead in the 66th minute through Jimenez, who did what he does best before firing an absolute rocket past the goalkeeper.

In the 83rd minute, Marco Nasti hit the crossbar and just as it looked like the game would finish 2-0, Jimenez took matters into his own hands again. He calmly slotted home the 3-0 goal with his left foot, giving Milan Futuro the perfect first official game and win.

Milan Futuro (4-2-3-1): Nava; Jimenez, Minotti, Bartesaghi, Bozzolan; Zeroli, Sandri; Cuenca, Liberali, Sia; Camarda.

  1. Nice debut match for Futuro.

There’s also Zeroli goal that’s disallowed because offside.

Looked bright against adults, albeit Serie C one. Lecco was at Serie B last season…

          1. Didn’t watch the match either but I also believe it makes the most sense fielding him centrally due to the same reasons you mentioned.

Anyways good we are off to a good start.

          2. Lmfao you obviously didn’t watch him during the euros this summer. He played lb and was bombing forward. Plus his defensive iq is spot on. Just bc someone doesn’t move like a jitterbug doesn’t mean they can’t play a certain position.

          3. Gives him the best chance with Theo, Jimenez and Terraciano blocking his path at LB.

If they do put in big performances in Serie C it will at least become more difficult for the club to block them.

  2. Creating a second team as Milan Futuro is best decision in over a decade. The team seems full of potentials and I am confident some of them will join first team in nearest future and become real stars . Forza Milan

    1. It will only work if there’s space created in the first team squad otherwise it’ll just become a dumping ground.

The first team squad needs to be max 23-25 players and that should ideally include Futuro players.

Also injuries need to be better managed. To reduce the injuries these players get but also to reduce the reliance on a massive squad to manage injuries.

    1. I believe they can’t, as there has to be a leagues space between teams incase senior team gets relegated. Means they cant get promoted either.
In any case, no openings in B

  3. Glad we have something like this finally. Many of the other big clubs like madrid, barca, and Bayern all have a youth squad in the 3rd tier of their countries and the results show. Looking forward to seeing them progress

  4. I can see Bonera taking over the first team in the not too distant future. Awful defender 😅 but pretty decent coach and a Milanista through and through. Well done boys

    1. Prime Bonera was good, at Parma he was one of the best defenders in the league, which is why we signed him in the first place. If you’re talking about bad defenders then you talking about Zaccardo not Bonera.
