CorSera: Ibrahimovic’s future at a crossroads – when a decision will arrive

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future remains a mystery for the time being and he will not make a decision before the end of the season, a report claims.

This morning’s edition of Il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reports that the Swede has found himself at a crossroads as to whether to stop playing and retire or carry on for on more year. It is possible that he perhaps already knows internationally, but wants to wait until the season ends before communicating it so as not to cause any distractions in the Scudetto bid.

Ibrahimovic’s words to ESPN on his future were honest and left things open: “I’m close to the finish line. I’m a little scared: if I had to stop, what will I do? What would the next chapter be? I know the various possibilities, I could do many things, but the adrenaline I feel on the pitch I don’t know if I could get it elsewhere.”

Zlatan’s desire to play is evident and has never been in question, but even he knows that the injury problems that have plagued him this season means that he must get guarantees regarding his condition before continuing.

Despite meeting the directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara every day at Milanello, Zlatan has not yet communicated his decision to them, but wants to wait for the end of the season since the Rossoneri are fighting for the Scudetto.

In his ESPN interview, he added: “If you think too much about afterwards, you are not focused on the rest. If I thought about my retirement now, I would not be able to help my team-mates. We are at the top, but we have to stay focused. In football, many things can change from week to week.” Wise words from a champion.
