Ibrahimovic provides glowing endorsement of Giroud amid World Cup hopes

AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has praised the influence that Olivier Giroud has had on the team thanks to his attitude.

Giroud has scored 22 goals in 55 appearances with Milan since joining, playing a key role in the Scudetto win last season and constantly emerging as being decisive in the biggest games such as in derbies against Inter and during the title run-in.

He showed it last night too as Milan sealed their passage into the knockout stages of the Champions League in convincing fashion with a commanding 4-0 victory against Red Bull Salzburg last night, and Giroud was the star of the show as he got two goals and two assists.

Ibrahimovic spoke to CanalPlus in France about Giroud, who still harbours hopes of being called up for the World Cup in Qatar by Didier Deschamps, with the Swede providing a ringing endorsement.

“Does Giroud deserve to go to the World Cup? Yes, he is a winner and a serious person. He will never score 40 goals a year, but he brings something that others don’t. He is not self-centered, he plays for everyone. When he arrived he gave a great hand and did great thing,” he said (via MilanNews).
