Tuttosport: Ibrahimovic temptation may prevail as Pioli plans without Giroud

By Oliver Fisher -

There will be a hole in the attack for AC Milan tomorrow with Olivier Giroud suspended and Stefano Pioli is pondering how to replace him.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) points out today, Giroud’s importance does not need much explaining given that he has 8 goals and 4 assists this season and has been working overtime due to the various issues in the centre-forward department.

His goals have directly brought five victories, but a problem will occur tomorrow evening when the Frenchman will not be able to take the field against Udinese due to the yellow card received against Salernitana which saw him get a one-game ban.

Milan have played without Giroud this season due to a suspension already on one occasion and things didn’t go very well as the Rossoneri drew 0-0 against Cremonese in a frustrating game.

Giroud’s replacements so far this season have been Ante Rebic and Divock Origi, but the former has lost his way again since his brace in the first game of the season (funnily enough against Udinese) and has only since scored against Empoli at the beginning of October, while Origi never got going at all.

Pioli could decide to give Zlatan Ibrahimovic his first start since January 2022 as the physical condition of the Swede continues to improve, and the 41-year-old can help drag the team towards the top four given the importance of Champions League qualification.
