CM: Ibrahimovic’s vision persists despite jeers from fans before Genoa game

Yesterday’s game against Genoa brought about the first public signs that the AC Milan fans are not happy with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

As Calciomercato.com write, Gerry Cardinale’s mission is to bring Milan back to the elite of world football, but so far the path has been full of obstacles. The face of RedBird Capital brought Ibrahimovic in one year ago, entrusting him with a Senior Advisor role.

Even though the job title is vague, no one at Milan holds as much weight as the Swede. Zlatan has the final say on every decision, whether strategic or transfer market related. He observes, studies, checks and decides on every area.

He keeps up to date on Milan Futuro, Milan Femminile and the First Team coached by Fonseca on a daily basis, he often requests reports on different areas such as marketing and communication. If he makes a decision – even a divisive one – it stands because there are no directors who have the strength to change it.

The latest example dates back to last Friday when the definitive breaking point with the now ex-sporting director Antonio D’Ottavio arrived. However, the vision of the collegial work has not changed, with Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada working closely with Ibrahimovic.

The former striker has identified four or five key men moving forward and among them are the Milan Futuro coach Daniele Bonera and the overseer of that project Jovan Kirovski, who arrived at the Rossoneri thanks to Ibrahimovic.

Kirovski is destined to have more and more power within Milan in the coming months. It remains to be understood in what role considering the presence of Geoffrey Moncada (whose contract expires in July, but should be renewed).

One certainty exists and it is also quite evident: a year on from his return, it is increasingly Ibrahimovic’s Milan. The fans made their thoughts clear: when he was shown on screen at the Genoa game last night, there was a smattering of jeers, showing unhappiness at the current path.

Zlatan is not happy with the results so far in the league, but has decided to continue with Paulo Fonseca for the time being. A bad result on Friday in Verona might change that.

  1. WTF does he know about running a football club? Managed to turn a scudetto-winning team into a midtable team with zero ambition amongst the players. GFTO and let competent people run the club. And no, I don’t mean the other ones in charge atm.

    1. Zlatan turned a scudetto winning team into a mid table team?
He was a player on the scudetto winning team, and on the team that finished 5th the following year.
I guess by being Injured and then retiring from playing he turned a scudetto winning team into a midtable team.

      1. You forgot the part where he took over from Maldini to “motivate the players” and “make/approve every decision”.

But yeah, it all started when he came back from the injury in an awful shape and not being able to help the team at all. Ever since.

      2. Yes, a team that was certain to qualify for CL became a mid tier team. Or whose fault it is now? The sun, Jesus, some other religious character? Or the guy that the owner said is his right hand and said that he makes final decisions? Even you can manage the correct answer here.

  2. Of course he will stand behind Fonzy. His ego won’t let him admit his mistake.

It’s not enough we have a narcissistic egomaniac owning the club, now we have another gigantic but fragile one running it.

But hey, can’t say I don’t enjoy all this violence breaking out🍿

  3. I call BS on this type of reports.
Nobody makes solo decisions. Not Maldini, not Ibra. The coach selection decision was not solo. No single transfer decision was solo.

  4. Only one to blame here is Gerry.

No one in their right mind gives a man-child with an overinflated ego $1.2B toy to play with and eventually break.

  5. Yes, blame Cardinale and RedTurd for the mess, Zlatan is just being his usual self..if you want to bring Milan back to the height of success then hire an elite manger when you can…

  6. Pošto on sve vodi i glavni je Šef onda mora i razmjerno tome odgovarat za NEUSPJEH !! Dakle otkaz odma i ostaloj postavi iza njega isto tako

  7. Ibrahimovic would rather see us labour under someone subordinate to himself, than thrive under someone who might deign to have their own ego.

Nothing about his persona throughout his entire public life ever suggested he’d be good in this kind of role. Whatever spell he has Cardinale under is ruining the club.

They all need to go, but if I could only pick one, it would be Ibrahimovic.

    1. He could then launch a new million-dollar business by teaching people “How to turn from lion to a pathetic little poodle in just one year”.

  8. 1. What vision? This is the problem. This team was constructed without any type vision or plan in mind.
    2. Let’s not put this all on Ibra. He wasn’t there when Maldini and Massara were fired or when we signed and sold players erratically last season. The majority of the blame lies elsewhere.

  9. The man has either too much ego to admit and own to his mistakes (or lack of a role) or he lives in a bubble and can’t actually see beyond what he claims.
In either case, he needs to go.

    1. I am from Sweden but never liked Zlatans ego. He thinks really he is the God. He might have been a wonderful player, but far behind GRE-No-Li, that amazing Swedish trio, and of course a lot behind van Basten Sheva, Kaka, Maldini to name a few. As a director he is obviously a mediocre figure and fits well with our boss Carnevale. But he will remain there unless a Russian, or a Saudi or a Chinese wealthy person takes over.

      1. I agree. I don’t even class him as a legend. Nothing in the same realm as Nordahl, Gren, Liedholm, Rivera, MVB, Gullit, Sheva, Inzaghi and that’s just forwards there are many more. He’s had more clubs than tiger woods.

Excellent footballer yes…Milan legend..not for me, he’s the level below whatever that is

        1. Ibra disappeared and looked scared of the ball in the big CL ties he played for Milan, like when we lost v Tottenham.
He is a flat track bully who does well against weaker opposition, but when he was stood up to, like all bullies he wilted like a flower.
That’s why he has this big obnoxious personality it is because in truth he lacks confidence and is a narcissistic personality, exactly not what you want in a leader

        2. Agreed. Club hero but Mos Def not a legend.
And nice shout out to some of Milan’s forward greats. I would even throw in Jose Altafini too a club legend.

          1. Benfica 63…two goals against Eusebio’s Benfica to take the title from them..great shout buddy. Cesare’s only European Cup win as well.

  10. It is ridiculous that a vulture fund Elliot manages the club way better than the next owner that spent money to buy the club. It isn’t even that hard, you just don’t hire noobs in management positions, and a club like Milan can attract top staff easily. Example, Elliot had Gazidis, who brought Arsenal to top of the clubs financially while their results were way below pair. So he knew his job, he didn’t need the club to win CL so he can make more turnover. And so on. Let’s be honest, Redbird hired a bunch of management turd. They might be great people, amazing ex footballers or whatever, but 0 in football management.

  11. Ibra has a vision? maybe he has not communicated it to us properly. cos i aint seeing one yet. he has a dream, but has wrecked the foundations of that dream. Someone should tell him, stuff on earth are built from the bottom up!

  12. Vision?
The man is blind so far and needs an optometrist urgently.
The season will see Milan miss Europe next year!
    Good vision Ibra
