It required Milan reaching the last 16 to make it a possibility and when the knockout stages were secured after the 4-0 win over Red Bull Salzburg last week, it must have been on the Swede’s mind that he could be back on the biggest stage next February.

The Swedish centre-forward repeatedly motivated his teammates during the group stage, asking them to give their all, and Stefano Pioli spoke during his pre-Cremonese press conference about Zlatan.

“His recovery is progressing well. We will see what happens between now and February. I hope to have the best possible team for Tottenham, but it’s still too early to think about it. We remain focused on the league,” he said (via SempreMilan.it).

Among the players who should also be back compared to the last few games should be captain Davide Calabria, right-back Alessandro Florenzi, winger Alexis Saelemaekers and goalkeeper Mike Maignan, making the squad considerably stronger than the ones that lost to Chelsea twice.
