GdS: Inter vs. Milan is Inzaghi vs. Pioli – two coaches with differing lifestyles

By Oliver Fisher -

The eyes of the media and the footballing world will focus on the two teams during Saturday’s derby between AC Milan and Inter, but the two head coaches deserve a separate discussion too.

Today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) focuses on the lifestyles of Stefano Pioli and Simone Inzaghi, remarking on how they are very similar coaches in terms of background but they have different ways of enjoying life away from the field.

The Inter coach lives in the Garibaldi area with his wife Gaia Lucariello – who is an entrepreneur in the field of fashion – in a very large apartment that is spread over three floors with an indoor swimming pool. He often has guests over, including his brother Filippo who goes to visit plenty as he is not far away, being based in Brescia.

Simone already knew Milan very well, the city where he lived for about fifteen years ago when his playing career was at an end and where he feels at ease. His wife is passionate about fashion, loves the Montenapoleone area and the area around Corso Garibaldi.

Stefano Pioli also chose to live in the central areas of Milan, and he first stayed in a hotel on Piazza della Repubblica and then moved to an apartment in the Corso Magenta area. He loves to ride a bicycle, but also to walk when his wife Barbara often joins him.

The couple visit their grandchildren regularly, and while Pioli rarely crosses into the elegant shopping streets, his love for food often leads him to various restaurants outside his ‘comfort zone’.

The paper mentions a time when Simone Inzaghi, together with his wife, bought some winter clothes during the Christmas period, only to wear them immediately as soon as they left the shop.
