Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has addressed the rumours linking Antonio Conte with the AC Milan job, while he also spoke about the ongoing battle for Serie A supremacy.
Even though the season is ongoing and there are objectives to fight for, there is intense speculation about Stefano Pioli’s job beyond the end of the season and Conte has been insistently linked with taking over.
Late last month, Luca Momblano did a segment live on Telelombardia in which he claimed that Conte has reached a verbal agreement to take over at Milan, and since then the rumours have gone into overdrive again.
Speaking on the Supertele segment on DAZN, Marotta was asked about the idea that Conte could complete the ‘big three’ by coaching Milan after having ticked off Juventus and Inter.
“I say that at the moment Antonio Conte is an asset to Italian football who would be useful to many teams, so the hope is that he can return to Italy. Then it depends a lot on him,” he said (via Radio Rossonera).
The former Italian national team boss was also mentioned later in the interview when Marotta was talking about Inter’s growth.
“The new cycle began with Spalletti, then was developed by Conte who gave so many qualities to this team and this group, which remained largely unchanged, both from the point of view of the winning mentality and that of the game.”
Telelombardia – although not known for their bulletproof reliability – reported today that Conte would ask for five quality signings if he were to become the head coach of Milan, including a couple of players that he knows very well.
Let him be “an asset” to some other Italian club, not Milan.
Forget Conte. Bring Marotta.
