‘Now I’m starting to get angry’ – Inzaghi believes Inter were denied ‘clear penalty’ vs. Milan

Inter boss Simone Inzaghi believes that they were denied an obvious penalty during their 1-1 draw with AC Milan in the derby last night.

Milan took the lead right before the half-time interval thanks to Tijjani Reijnders’ emphatic finish after Yann Sommer parried Rafael Leao’s cross/shot into his path, and they managed to hold it for a long time despite wave after wave of pressure,

In the 93rd minute, the Nerazzurri did get the equalising goal with Stefan De Vrij firing in after a deep cross was chested down to him around six yards out by the debutant Zalewski, and that would be the way that the game ended.

Inzaghi spoke to DAZN after the full-time whistle to give his thoughts on yet another dramatic derby, the third this season featuring a late goal, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.

Has the recent period taken some energy out of you?

“I can’t help but applaud my team for how they went beyond this evening: unfortunately they couldn’t get past the incidents: three disallowed goals, three posts and a clear penalty not given.

“Despite this we managed to get past them. We must also congratulate Milan who never gave up, a team with pace and quality.”

You felt the Pavlovic-Thuram contact was a penalty…

“I don’t feel like talking about it: it’s a broad topic. We come from Bologna and Riyadh, to this match: I hadn’t noticed it on the pitch, then I saw it again. I don’t know the instructions: the referee is there but whoever is sitting can’t not call.

“It can happen, we footballers and coaches make mistakes but it’s starting to be the fourth occasion when I saw some jurisprudence broadcasts about Inter for fouls. Now I’m starting to get angry.”

How do you feel the game unfolded?

“We have an opponent playing in front of us [sitting deep], in the first half they only had the shot to score. We had the game in hand, two goals were rightly disallowed and we should have been better at attacking the space in behind.

“In the 95 minutes we deserved more than the equaliser. That’s football, we move forward with our heads down, we work.”

How did the wing-backs and Zalewski do in your eyes?

“I think he came in well, a quality guy that we were missing from the team. He was ready straight away. A player who will clearly give us a hand.

“In the first half Milan were waiting for us, we didn’t want to allow any counter-attacks: in the 45th minute we conceded one. We could have moved them and played better technically, but it’s still a derby and it’s the 17th game in less than two months…”

  1. I also didn’t see it during the match, don’t think anyone did during the broadcast as well. I’d say even if the VAR reviewed the contact they might have let it go. But in any case we have seen way more subtle contacts being penalized, so good fortune to us this time.

  2. Haha this goofball’s getting angry after inter orchestrated calciopoli and only a few months ago were trying to get Milan investigated for dodgy accounting. What a jack@ss.

    1. What does that have to do with a clear penalty? If it is a penalty it is, you can’t be a coward and use whataboutism to justify something because it is your team…Wow, this is special even for you…

      1. It is not penalty.

Do you know why ? Because no one awarded the penalty.

Who watch Ac Milan football in last 5 years, should write book about these situations.

        1. What? Ajde ne kenjaj previše. Bio je čisti penal, to što sudac nije sudio je druga priča. Te priglupe priče da nije penal jer nije sudio ostavi za svoju obitelj, ok?

  3. Yes he deserved to get angry…because Milan now can be equal and be the same level with Inter, who known as the best team in Italy, also in europe.

Forza Milan…lets get the consistency team

  4. Well, let’s be honest, when it comes to crying about referees, we are probably standing on top of that list lol

This time, finally it didn’t go against us.
If the sides were reversed it was inter defenders sandwiched Leao like that, our fans would be crying too.

I am happy that Inter is mad lol

  5. I didn’t clock this in realtime but looking only at those pictures, that looks like a very clever trailing leg from Thuram to me – trying anything after getting beaten up by Pavlovic all night.

It’s a no from me, but good effort.

    1. Watch the video. Even the TV commentator here was really surprised VAR didn’t intervene. And he is a big Milan fan. It was quite visible if you don’t focus on Theo.

      1. A picture tells a thousand stories at the exact same time Theo came sliding in and lets be clear, regardless if there was any contact there is no chance thuram would have still have the ball after theos tackle. You could argue that Tammy should get a penalty after bisseck cleared the call because his momentum took Tammy out. What this picture doesn’t show is that Theo wins the ball in this situation. No way a pen. If be getting more worked up about the post being hit 3 times

  6. The look on Inter players faces being incredulous as to why they couldn’t beat us is definitely the highlight of the season. It brings me immense joy to see them like that…with Inzaghi b!tchmoaning and complaining is like a cherry on top 🤗🤗🤗
