Inzaghi says Inter ‘won’t change strategy’ based on the fitness of Milan forward Leao

By Euan Burns -

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has said that he will not change the strategy of his team whether Rafael Leao is fit to play for AC Milan or not on Wednesday.

Speaking during an interview with Prime Video (via Milan News), Inzaghi was understandably asked about the fitness situation surrounding Leao.

The Portuguese forward is Milan’s key player but he is a major injury doubt after suffering an abductor injury on Saturday against Lazio.

It now seems unlikely that he will start the game, but Inzaghi is not taking that into account.

“We all know he is in doubt…. He’s very strong, we’ll make some adjustments, but we won’t change strategy,” Inzaghi said.

On the general importance of the game, Inzaghi mentioned that the teams have been facing each other a lot recently and Inter will need the right mix of heart and mental stability to win the Champions League semi-final.

“It’s a derby, or rather it’s the derby. We know the importance it has for us and for the club, we know Milan well as we have played them seven times in these last twenty months. Heart and head will be needed, of course, and the head will be very important over the 180 minutes,” he said.

There are a couple of injury concerns for Inter with Milan Skriniar being out and Robin Gosens potentially being out too.

“Everyone’s condition will have to be assessed well. I can choose both in attack and midfield. Without Skriniar I hope to have D’Ambrosio to have more options, while I still don’t know if Gosens will be there,” Inzaghi said.
