Sky journalist claims De Ketelaere currently ‘not the player Milan hoped to have’

Sky journalist Peppe Di Stefano has said that Charles De Ketelaere is not currently the player that AC Milan expected to have but suggested there is no sign he will leave the club.

Speaking during an interview with Radio Rossonera, Di Stefano discussed a couple of important topics at Milan right now. One is the form of De Ketelaere who joined the club in the summer and is yet to score.

The youngster was given a start against Fiorentina in Brahim Diaz’s absence but he failed to grasp the opportunity. Di Stefano explained that he is an intelligent person who has learned Italian well, but he is not delivering what the club hoped for so far.

Not convincing for now. Certainly Milan in Florence didn’t put him in the best conditions. But sometimes I see Diaz who changes Milan’s matches even when he plays badly,” he began.

“The technical qualities are indisputable, but something is missing. Then I see the action at the end of the first half where he runs 50 meters with the ball and leaves everyone behind and I wonder why he can’t play the whole game like that. Right now he is not the player Milan hoped to sign.

“Then we return to the usual speeches. Tonali also struggled in the first year, but that team’s goals were different. The Europa League was being played and the Scudetto was not a goal. This time there are 70 or 80,000 people still in the stadium, there is the weight of the shirt, increased by the Scudetto on your chest and you cost €35 million.

“And he knows he’s doing it wrong. He’s a smart guy, I interviewed him before the match. He already speaks Italian well, [Jonathan] Ikoné after two years still doesn’t speak it. He wants to stay here, he’s committed and wants to stay here. In football, however, you have to give signals. Today he is not the player that Milan hoped to have.”

Another topic discussed was Tiemoue Bakayoko, who has suddenly been involved in two games despite not playing all season prior. Di Stefano admitted that he now appears to be ahead in the pecking order of Tommaso Pobega and Aster Vranckx.

Yes, in my opinion at this moment he has overtaken Pobega and Vranckx in the hierarchies. I judge his last two entrances as positive. But Bakayoko knows how to play football. He is not Pirlo but he can give you some certainties,” Di Stefano said.

    1. Very true, a 20 year old not producing is less an issue than 4 veteran players taking up more than 12M in salary not producing anything.

    1. Kessie is often a starter for Barcelona now, about to win La Liga, and next season they will do well in the Champions League. He’s also making more money. Why would he come back? Sadly we are a feeder club now.
