It has been revealed that AC Milan and Juventus evaluated a swap involving Koni De Winter and Federico Gatti during the January transfer window.
It’s no secret that Massimiliano Allegri wanted Milan to reinforce the squad with a centre-back in the summer. Several names were linked with the club, including Gatti, but the Rossoneri opted not to sign anyone in the end.

Luckily, De Winter stepped up his performances and it must be said that there hasn’t been a crisis in defence. Nevertheless, it’s clear that a reinforcement still could have helped Allegri’s men, especially in the last month or so when things started to get shaky.
De Winter-Gatti swap stalled
As revealed by the reliable Juventus journalist Romeo Agresti, in an interview with Milan Vibes, Milan evaluated a swap with the Bianconeri involving De Winter and Gatti. Having worked with the latter a lot before, Allegri was a big advocate.
However, as the journalist explained, Milan not only wanted Gatti in exchange for De Winter, but also some cash from the Turin side…
“In January, a De Winter-Gatti swap was attempted, but Milan legitimately requested a cash compensation in their favour for going through with the swap. Juve simply said ‘no, you have to pay us’ and the negotiations stalled there,” he stated.

I doubt it
Tomori plus cash would be more believable. De Winter is going to be one of the five CB’s next season.
